Electromagnet Experiment

Electromagnet ExperimentElectromagnet

We recently created a printable worksheet based on an experiment we set up to investigate electromagnets. Its a very simple set-up and can be created with common materials that shouldn’t be too difficult to find in your local hardware store. The worksheet contains an explanation of the basic physics, a materials list, a diagram, explanation of the procedure and a reference list.

    Edna,

Remember that the current flowing through the WIRE causes a magnetic field in the wire which is perpendicular to the direction of the current. It is easy to see with a drawing, which you can view at the following website: http://www.school-for-champions.com/science/electromagnetism.htm
The lines with arrows show the Magnetic Field.

I just want to ask about the electromagnet. Why does the paper clips do not attracted to the elecromagnet on the center of the iron core?
