YouTube: Join the World’s First Collaborative Online Orchestra
Wednesday, December 3, 2008
YouTube recently launched a collaborative online orchestra initiative called simply the YouTube Symphony Orchestra. Musicians from around the world can ‘audition’ to participate in the YouTube Orchestra and maybe even perform live at Carnegie Hall!
People of all ages are invited to submit their own video performances of a new piece written for the occasion by the renowned Chinese composer Tan Dun (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).
This initiative is a great way for homeschoolers to participate in a global initiative, possibly gain recognition, and learn a bit about what it takes to play in an orchestra! YouTube provides the Tan Dun piece for your instrument and even provides a ‘conductor’ video to help keep the tempo. Participants simply video record their performances and upload to YouTube.
If you or your homeschooler are interested in participating, check out the YouTube Symphony Orchestra links to get started
