Use existing LEGO Parts to Build Popular LEGO Kits
Monday, December 29, 2008
LEGOs are a great addition to any homeschool curriculum but they can be quite expensive. If you already have a large collection of loose LEGO pieces from past projects, why not try building free, reasonable likenesses of the kits you would normally purchase. The lego.com website has a handy instruction manual finder. Simply type in the set number or a keyword to download a .pdf file of the manual for the kit you desire. The manual will show each piece needed to complete the kit. The fun really begins when you don’t have all of the pieces and have to modify your design to use pieces you do have. Also, unless you already have the mini figures that come with the kit, you will have to use your imagination here, too — but that’s the point!.
We performed our test using a kit we already had so that we could compare the results for ourselves. We used the 7667 kit (Star Wars Imperial dropship) for our test. Here are our results. We are very pleased with our results, but maybe your results will prove even snazzier.

This is a great find! We not only have lots of Legos but Kinex as well. Hopefully I can find manuals for both so that we can build all kinds of great stuff.
